Seven thousand years ago, a mountain towered here. Its main peak, Mazama, once had a height of more than 3000 m. But after the volcanic eruption, which threw out over 2900 cubic km. pumice and ash, covering tens of kilometers in diameter, a crater 600 meters deep formed in this place.
Snow and rain filled it with water and created the most transparent, like crystal, lake in the world. Today, it is the deepest and cleanest lake in the United States. Its waters seep down through the rock, dissolving many minerals along the way, which are then deposited in Klamath Lake.
Today, the entire area around Crater Lake is a national park that offers visitors to the state of Oregon an amazing experience.
